About Me

My Story

How can a Chicagoan blog about Napa and its wine? Simply put, I fell in love with Napa after my first visit in 2009 and began what will surely be a lifelong love affair with this region. While my career and family keep me in the Midwest, I’m fortunate to travel to Napa a few times each year and benefit from big city access to these great wines. I began my writing on Twitter as @NapaCabulous, an ode to my favorite varietal, but decided to expand beyond 140 characters so that I can share my experiences with others who have an affinity for Napa and fine wine. I also post tips on making the most of your visit to wine country. Whether you’re a longtime wine enthusiast or just exploring this new interest, you too, can live Napa cabulous every day!

When in Napa, I really can’t get enough of the beautiful scenery, the high-quality wines and the warm, friendly people. On each trip, I try to blend tastings at my old favorite wineries with a few new-to-me spots. At home, we aim to open and profile one or more bottles per week. Something you’ll notice about my writing is that when I find something I like, I consume it frequently. Though, I know I’ve only scratched the surface of what’s out there. I’m always looking for wine and winery suggestions from others. In fact, one of my favorite questions to ask Napa wine educators is, “Where would you send out-of-town friends to taste?” This has led me to some of my greatest finds.

By day, I work at a Chicago-based marketing firm. I spent most of my life in Southeast Wisconsin before moving to Illinois – my sports allegiances lie with the Packers, Brewers and Marquette Golden Eagles! I’m happily married to Derek, my partner in wine-drinking crime. When not traveling to Napa, I like spending time with our families in Wisconsin and Michigan. I’ve also started taking Swedish language classes for fun and recently completed my first sprint triathlon.

Wine Reviews

I rate wines on a subjective, cumulative five-point scale based on aroma, taste, mouthfeel, balance, finish and value. Generally, I do not conduct blind tastings since I am usually drinking what I already know is in my cellar.
